Internet Dates From Hell

Prior to a scheduled surgery, I was given Internet Dates from Hell as a gift. My well-meaning benefactor, an industrious toddler’s Mom, didn’t have time in her busy days for the subtleties of gift-wrapping. She intended to provide engaging reading material to keep me occupied DURING those gloomy recovery days certain to follow my upcoming operation. Suffice it to say, it was her hectic lifestyle that gave me the opportunity to examine my gift prior to the impending procedure.
The front cover design had me intrigued “straight away.” A few days prior to being admitted into the Surgery Center I perused the abstract and information provided about the author–both printed on the back cover. My interest was peaked. Next I found myself scanning the Chapter Titles. Does it surprise you to learn that subsequently I read the Acknowledgements and Preface, as well as randomly flipping through the pages of the soft back? On occasion, I just HAD to halt to read certain randomly selected selections that caught my attention. Soon I found that I could not restrain myself from hastily advancing to the core of the book. Okay, if the truth be known, I had the entire volume digested long before I ever saw the inner sanctum of the operating room! Well, I hadn’t promised that I would save it for my recuperation, had I?
Internet Dates from Hell was a delightful, swift read; furthermore, I found Ventker’s writing style captivating. It was with flare that she incorporated utmost humor while giving her readers the opportunity to share in her international, multi-cultural personal Internet dating adventures, including those that took place in what felt like Hades–she did not omit the excitement, frustrations, hopefulness and “let downs” surrounding a future she desired and deserved–that of a wife, and Mom while Mother Nature was still on her side.
It comes as no surprise that I enjoyed her book. When Ventker was a vivacious, single, 30 year-old living in New York City, posting and analyzing replies to her multiple Internet Singles sites postings, I was a married 50-year old (raised in a small town in southern Louisiana, now living at an altitude over 8,400 feet in a quirky, but extremely picturesque, Colorado mountain community–where, by the way, to boost tourism the highlight was an annual festival was held honoring a cryogenically frozen Dead Man who remains stored in a shed). Past middle-age, approaching old-age, and residing far from the glamour of the Big Apple, I found her escapades fascinating–I think that is described as “living vicariously.” The prospect of meeting a potential simpatico individual to become best friend, husband and prospective father of one’s children by using a device such as a desktop or laptop PC was unfamiliar territory to me. After all, my prime dating years were almost prior to the advent of the computer–corporate mainframes existed, but it certainly was not an era when individuals owned their own CPUs–much less the introduction of on-line dating sites to find a potential mate.
In my opinion, the author knew just how to capture the interest those younger than her, appeal to her peers, as well as snare the attention of those [like me] so much older by providing an insight into her idiosyncratic experiences–overall a GREAT and educational read (with a built-in guide to today’s Internet dating “must do’s” and “must never do’s”) and an excellent ending!
I look forward to reading any future writing she may publish. Certainly someone who lives such an interesting life isn’t going to stop just because … After you have read Internet Dates from Hell you will know what my reference to “just because” means!
I JUST found out there is a Website–www.InternetDatesFromHell.com! Can’t wait to pay it a visit.

This author had some extraordinary dates, as described in her book. Many of the men she dated were wealthy or had very high incomes. Most online daters will not have such experiences, so it was enjoyable to read them by this author. Another interesting internet dating book I have read is:Unlocking the Secrets of Internet Dating

what an excellent book! i read this in one sitting – a modern-day fairy tale and a reminder to all those out there looking for love to never give up hope. Written in a light-hearted casual manner, you almost feel the author sitting right next to you sharing her stories. i enjoyed this tremendously and highly recommend this to those about to launch themselves into the internet dating world.

Great book! I think my dating life is three chapters of the book. I know I must have dated Ms. Ventker in another life..the look on her face when my hairpiece fell into my pasta..priceless! Little did I know that eating with the left hand was considered offensive in some cultures. The part about my pants catching on fire during a religious service was not really that funny at the time. A great and entertaining read.

I bought this book because I adore the cover, and much to my surprise, I enjoyed the content too. It’s a fun book that made me LOL. I relate to some of the characters that author Trisha Ventker is so adept at describing. What a fun romp!!!
Most young people I know who have met mates on the Internet have had both good and bad experiences. You just have to be careful whom you invite into your life. There’s some good advice in this book too.
Buy it and enjoy! Don’t expect the greatest masterpiece, but DO enjoy a fun read on a lazy Fall evening.
